Twelve Rashis, twelve houses, nine planets — here is the simplest path to start reading your own Kundli with confidence.
Start with the Foundations
Vedic astrology — Jyotisha — rests on four pillars: the 12 Rashis (zodiac signs), the 12 Bhavas (houses), the 9 Grahas (planets) and the 27 Nakshatras (lunar constellations). Master these four and every chart starts to read like a familiar language. Skip them and even the cleverest predictions remain a guess.
The 12 Houses
Each house governs a slice of life: the 1st is self, the 2nd is wealth, the 4th is home and mother, the 5th is creativity and children, the 7th is partnership, the 10th is career and reputation. Memorise the houses first — they tell you where to look in the chart, before you worry about what to say.
Reading Planets in Houses
A planet's job is decided by where it sits. Sun in the 10th brings authority; Saturn in the 7th tests partnerships; Jupiter in the 5th elevates wisdom and children. Start with the simplest interpretations and slowly layer aspects, lords and dignities. Resist the urge to jump to advanced techniques before this base is solid.
Practice with Your Own Chart
Cast your own D-1 chart on any reputable software, then write out — in your own words — what each planet is doing in each house. Compare it to your life as you have actually lived it. This single exercise teaches more than ten books. Continue with charts of close family for the next month, and you will be reading naturally before you know it.
